Crooks and Castles
Crooks and Castles is a men’s streetwear clothing company started in 2002 to service the Japanese street wear market’s appetite for American urban styles. History of Crooks and Castles
Crooks and Castles was started by Dennis Calvero, the current Creative Director of the company, and his pals Robert Panlilio and Ericha Ramirez. Prior to starting the company, Calvero worked as a graphic designer learning the ins and out of the independent clothing scene with his start up brand, Landscape.
Concept of Crooks and Castles
The core philosophy behind the company is the crook, or street hustler that is obsessed with acquiring wealth, power and notoriety by any means necessary. The castle is in reference to their achievements, and is a symbol of their status and influence. The founders of Crooks and Castles grew up in the streets of Los Angeles and regularly witnessed the struggles and hardships in everyday life for people dealing with poverty, gangs, and police brutality. In this way, many become to idolize the kingpins and pimps who infamously claw their way out of the rut through being less than honest citizens. From Bill Gates to Suge Knights, these are the true inspiration for this urban streetwear brand.
T-shirts and Shorts
Perhaps best known for their summer wear, Crooks and Castles produce eye-catching designs that are printed on shorts and T-shirts. These bold graphics emblazon their core ideals, reinforcing their hustler attitude and want for the better life. Designs featuring images of watches, jewelry, and chains are common themes that are portrayed on some of their most recognized gear.
Hoodies and Jackets
Crooks and Castles are also known for their hoodies, which feature Los Angeles style artwork and prominent original designs. Some of their most sought after hoodies feature a large medusa head, or two interlocking C’s, of which have become hallmarks of the label. Also popular is their medusa head wearing a bandana.
Ballcaps and Hats
Crooks and Ca both stles also produce a limited variety of head gear, such as their ever popular ball caps. These hats are truly a work of art, and feature many details and refinements you won’t find anywhere else, like stitched logos and gold chains.
