Evisu manufactures and sells premium denim products, like raw unsanfortized selvage jeans, as well as shoes, T-shirts and other clothing accessories. Evisu is a Japanese street wear clothing company based out of Osaka, Japan.
Evisu Jeans
Evisu is best known for their raw selvedge denim. During the early 90’s, Evisu’s founder, Hidohiko Yamane, imported vintage shuttle looms to reproduce the denim style worn by workmen during the first half of the 20th century. The process to create this high quality denim is slow and expensive, but the outcome is a superior denim fabric that is very durable and comfortable to wear. The shuttle looms produce selvedge or selvage denim, and it is identifiable by a line of vertical stitching that runs up the inseams of the pant legs. Sevlage denim is highly sought after in the streetwear fashion world.
Evisu Selvage Denim
Evisu colors its premium denim through a labor-intensive dipping process that sees its top of the line jeans dipped as many as 30 times before it is ready for sale. Evisu chooses to use traditional indigo dye for its raw denim jeans. This indigo is derived from plants, which are grown in plantations specifically for Evisu products. With so many coats of dye, the jeans feature a very deep indigo color that is closer to looking black than blue. Because these jeans are sold ‘dry’, which means the jeans have never been washed at the factory after being dyed, the indigo is able to rub off the denim more easily, and this produces wonderful distressed patterns that are completely unique and constantly changing.
Evisu Shoes and Clothing
As Evisu’s high quality products have gained notoriety from within Japan and around the world, their product line has cautiously expanded to include T-shirts, hoodies and shoes. Evisu shoes are for casual wear, and feature runners, sandals and walking footwear.
